Balance What Matters and Let Go of the Rest

About Us

Just an ordinary couple trying to do life extraordinarily. Aren’t we all? Life comes with big highs, big lows and a lot of right there in the middle. Many times we walk with one another through the highs and lows but what about the day to day?  Each small day adds up to the rest of our lives so shouldn’t we take each one seriously?  Not in a have no fun –work, work, work – kind of way. And, not in a take the bull by the horns and make every day count kind of way either.  But, in a balanced –a little work, a little fun, and a lot of love- kind of way. We are bringing you this blog to share our journey of life, marriage, kids, etc. There will be successes and failures, highs and lows, and a whole lot of day to day. Will you come along for the ride?

Her:  Growing up I envisioned a career as a successful professional, a doctor specifically. In college my interests switched to psychology where I hoped my therapy degree would help to equip couples with the skills to love and grow together as they cultivate their family. Never did I picture myself as a stay at home mom.
Things all began to change when my first daughter came into the world and turned my life upside down. I knew at that moment I would have no greater purpose in life than growing that little precious bundle into a woman. My psychology aspirations paled in comparison to my new role as mom. So I put aside all the schooling and journeyed out, untrained and a little uneasy into the world of motherhood.
I now spend my days at home being a support to Troy and equipping, schooling and nurturing our now five daughters.  Each day, although challenging, brings a reward that only being a mom could. There is so much that I have learned and yet so much left to learn. I hope that through these entries I can share hope and direction for those who are searching and continue to learn along with you to balance what matters and let go of the rest.

Him:  I’m passionate about many things as I’m sure you’ll learn within these pages. I grew up in the city but have a strong draw to the outdoors. I spent much of my childhood playing organized sports but have found that they don’t fit into my adult life quite like they once did. My family drives my priorities and it is with my wife and five girls that I devote most of my time although I do hold back a few activities that I primarily keep to myself- running and reading currently.
I love Allison. I love to love her, to serve her, to share experiences with her, to grow and learn together and to banter. The last, a pastime of ours, will most definitely provide some comedy as we share what makes us tick, how we tackle life and the new endeavors that we choose to dive into.

Us:  The most important path we have been on is the one to serve the Lord.  Raised in church, we have been on this journey for many years.  But, the path looks different and clearer than it once did.  Growing up we found that religion infected the truth of God’s word and we stepped out to separate the two and figure out what truth actually looked like.  We now consider ourselves followers of Christ who try to serve and honor God daily.  C.J. Mahaney, an author we respect tremendously, put it perfectly in his words “[We are] sinners whose lives have been transformed by the power of the gospel.”  We are flawed, we make mistakes – sometimes perpetually, but we are steered by Christ who loves us back to His truth.  We pray that His word emanates in our blog and blesses you.
